WHERE ANOTHER PEBBLE DROPPED
Let me first state two positions. First, I was originally against the war in Iraq, feeling that it would be much better for NATO to support the IAEA in their pursuit of "weapons of destruction" than to draw our attention away from Afghanistan. Second, I have always been a friend of Israel and the Jewish people for their suffering and the final creation of their lost homeland with the help of Britain and the United States and many in the world community.
I now feel that even President George Bush (perhaps with the help of his father and Jim Baker, but not Vice President Cheney), late in his presidency, came to the conclusion that nation building has a definite roll to play when he sent General Petreous in to Iraq with the surge.
President Obama now is applying that same technique in Afghanistan where it should have been applied originally.
I feel we must build confidence in the people, infrastructure, schools, security, etc. if we are to get them to the point where they do not have to turn to terrorism or terrorism's deliverers. At the same time we must know how to convince them that nation building, in the final inning, is their task, so that we withdraw before being accused of Colonialism.
However, as part of that solution we must solve the Palistinian Israeli problem. Somehow we must get the Arabic Nations and the Israili Government to realize the importance of their joint participation in the eradication of terrorism before it becomes a REAL REAL problem.
